3 History of Psychology WUNDT AND STRUCTURALISM. Wilhelm Wundt (1832–1920) was a German scientist who was the first person to be referred to as JAMES AND FUNCTIONALISM. William James (1842–1910) was the first American psychologist who espoused a different FREUD AND PSYCHOANALYTIC THEORY. Psychology is a relatively young science with its experimental roots in the 19th century, compared, for example, to human physiology, which dates much earlier. As mentioned, anyone interested in exploring issues related to the mind generally did so in a philosophical context prior to the 19th century. Two men, working in the 19th century, are Teaching the History of Psychology.

These must be considered separately, however, as they have their own disciplinary norms.

History of psychology

Wundt is considered to be the found er of modern psychology, and Freud is regarded as the father of psychoanalysis. Psychology has a very old history. It has evolved through stages over time. It was studied in ancient Greece and there is evidence related to its study in ancient Egypt as well. However, it was not till 1870 that it became an independent branch of study. The Society for the History of Psychology (SHP), Division 26 of the American Psychological Association (APA). We are an international organization of scholars, teachers, and members whose interests and scholarship are concerned with understanding the historical events and important people who have shaped the development of psychological thought and practice.
